The National Library of Jamaica invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill:
Position: Senior Restorer (PIDG / AR3)
Salary Scale: $1,550,120 p.a.
Deadline: Thursday, February 29, 2024 @ 5 p.m.Job Purpose  
Under the direction of the Preservation and Conservation Manager, the Senior Restorer is responsible for preservation and conservation of library material in keeping with international standards.

Environmental conditions reports.
Risk assessment conducted.
Safety activities coordinated.
Repair and maintenance of equipment conducted.

Library tours conducted.
Client requests satisfied.
Quality control operations performed.

Key Responsibilities
Assesses items to determine the nature of the work to be done.
Repairs/Restores deteriorated library material/s.
Undertakes written and photo documentation on types of treatments and restorative repairs carried out.
Determines, in consultation with the supervisor, techniques and types of material to be used in the collection care process.
Performs a broad range of specialized treatments to preserve the collection for continuous usage.
Aids in the provision of training, development, and education to support knowledge transfer, development, and business continuity.
Assists in coordinating and monitoring the environmental conditions for collection storage areas throughout the library.
Participates in the Insect Pest Management Program (IPM) by conducting assessment of internal and external areas of the library.
Assists in lab maintenance, cleanliness and upkeep of tools and equipment.
Participates in the Library’s Disaster, Risk and Emergency Management Team
Assists in mounting exhibitions and displays.
Performs offsite fieldwork which may involve collection surveys, examination and treatment.
Keeps abreast of current professional practices and development, information technologies and research applicable to preservation and conservation.
Participates in the orientation of new employees.
Assists with library tours.
Assists with external client requests.
Coordinate to ensure adherence to safety and security controls.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Performance Standards/Indicators
Number of items preserved and conserved against target, timelines, and quality control standards.
Environmental conditions monitored based on agreed standards and timeframe.
Number of trainings conducted vs. target set
Number of risk assessments conducted vs target and impact.
Exhibitions mounted against target and timelines.
Work orders completed against target, standard and timelines.
Reports completed against target.

Qualification and experience
Five (5) subjects at CXC/CSEC or equivalent including Mathematics and English.
Three (3) years’ experience in preservation techniques

Special conditions associated with the job
Exposure to chemicals during course of work.
Exposure to dusty and/or moldy conditions.
Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) gears when working.
Required to work outside of normal working hours to include weekends.
Ability to lift heavy items 20-50lbs.
