On Being a Great 'Minor' Poet & Writer: The Importance of Neville Dawes

National Library of Jamaica's Distinguished Lecture 2009

Two years passed between 2007 and 2009 before the National Library of Jamaica offered another public lecture but it was well worth the wait. Emmy Award Winner and prolific writer Professor Kwame Dawes gave the NLJ’s Distinguished Lecture on Sunday October 18 2001. The lecture was of great significance to the National Library and Professor Dawes himself. It was delivered in the 30th anniversary year of the National Library of Jamaica and by the son of the man who over saw the transition of the National Library from the West India Reference Library. On Being a Great ‘Minor’ Poet the Importance of Neville Dawes was the title of the lecture an eager audience listened as Professor Dawes delivered a moving lecture.
