Visually Impaired included in Copyright Act
Cabinet by way of
Cabinet Decision 16/11 dated April 11, 2011 has given approval for amendment to
the Copyright Act to reflect:
- Establishing exemptions for access to
copyright works by the print and hearing disabled
- Establishing
the duration of copyright for works created by the Crown and corporate bodies

Making provision for access to ‘orphan
works’

Clarifying rights in adapted works

Extending the rights of Libraries and
Archives to archive material that was in digital format

Protecting first importers of sound
recordings in Jamaica by ensuring them the first the first right of
distribution of same

Establishing a voluntary deposit system
for copyright works to be hosted by JIPO. Subject to the agreed opinion of the
Attorney General’s Chambers having regard to the provisions of the Legal
Deposits Act.
